How Strategic analytics and MicroStrategy earned us recognition for one of the most impactful digital transformation projects in the world.

Where Insight Became Urgent

At the heart of every great transformation is a problem begging to be solved. In this case, it was a fragmented industrial operation—multiple plants, disconnected systems, and far too much time spent copying data into spreadsheets. Teams were operating in silos. Operations, logistics, maintenance, and finance each had their own reports, metrics, and processes.

Analysts were buried in manual tasks. Reports that should have taken seconds took days. Decisions were reactive, not proactive. And the business was leaking value every step of the way.

From Friction to Flow: The Six Sigma Mindset

I knew the answer wasn’t just about implementing better software—it was about re-engineering the operational model with a measurable, continuous improvement framework. We applied the DMAIC methodology (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) not only to the business process, but to the analytics pipeline itself.

  • Define: Align on enterprise-level pain points—OEE fluctuation, maintenance delays, inventory imbalances, and lack of real-time visibility.
  • Measure: Quantify the cycle time of reports, stock turnaround delays, data availability gaps, and overall production downtime.
  • Analyze: Identify process breakdowns and system redundancies using root cause analysis, data lineage audits, and cross-functional workshops.
  • Improve: Design a centralized analytics platform powered by MicroStrategy, integrated with ERP, and custom ETL pipelines, with embedded mobile access.
  • Control: Automate the flow of data with scheduled syncs and alerts, maintain KPI governance with semantic layers, and reinforce adoption with self-service dashboards.

This was a comprehensive, end-to-end analytics transformation initiative that spanned far beyond dashboarding. It involved architecting a scalable data infrastructure, enforcing governance at the semantic layer, and establishing a feedback loop to ensure ongoing process optimization. Every component—from ETL development to visualization—was designed with resilience, adoption, and long-term value in mind.

Designing the Nerve Center of Operations

The solution centered around a custom-built Industrial Intelligence Platform, developed in MicroStrategy and optimized for high-availability, role-based access, and real-time decision-making.

We mapped user personas and data consumption patterns to ensure every visualization was actionable. From field technicians to C-level executives, each interface was optimized for clarity, latency, and interactivity.


Key modules and architecture features:

  • Operations Dashboard: Real-time OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), throughput KPIs, line downtime classification, and predictive utilization metrics.
  • Maintenance Command Center: Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and AI-driven anomaly alerts via MicroStrategy
  • Inventory & Supply Chain View: SKU-level visibility, reorder thresholds, overstock analysis, and lead time deviation tracking.
  • Finance Control Tower: Cost-to-produce analysis, cost variance vs. standard, profit margin leakage by process segment, and dynamic budget allocations.
  • Mobile UX Layer: A mobile-first, offline-capable experience that empowered plant supervisors and managers to access real-time dashboards and take data-driven actions from anywhere in the world.

Data was consolidated from SAP, Oracle, SQL-based CMMS systems, and external vendors through a robust ETL framework with scheduling and error handling.


Impact That Speaks for Itself

Within just six months, the implementation paid for itself multiple times over:

  • $1.2 million in annualized savings, driven by real-time stock visibility and preventive maintenance optimization.
  • +1.5% increase in OEE, achieved by minimizing unplanned downtime and aligning shift productivity.
